This paper deals with the design, construction and testing of a high-voltage and low-current converter for powering a switched reluctance machine (SRM). The main direction in the design and construction of the converter is the SRM control strategy that the converter can perform in automotive applications. The paper is part of a larger study in which an SRM can operate a compressor used in HV AC applications. The purpose of the study is to provide a flexible converter for many types of SRM and be easy to control. In order to carry out this study in the laboratory, a test bench containing a dSPACE board, an electronic converter, a MC machine used as load, torque transducer, position transducer, temperature sensors and SRM.
