The invention discloses a method and a device for selecting single and double current transmission modes in a MIMO (multiple input multiple output) system, which relates to the field of communication, and are used for solving the problem that in the prior art, the transmission delay of a transmission block in a MIMO system is large, and a HARQ (hybrid automatic repeat request) soft combining gain characteristic is not fully considered. The method provided by the invention comprises the following steps: counting an accumulated SINR (signal to interference plus noise ratio) value of a transmission block required to be retransmitted in a MIMO (multiple input multiple output) channel; carrying out channel estimation on the MIMO channel, and determining the soft combining gain obtained by the transmission block in the transmission process; according to the accumulated SINR value of the transmission block, the soft combining gain increased by the transmission block in the transmission process and a decoding threshold of the transmission block, carrying out selection on single and double current transmission modes, and determining selection results; and according to the selection results, determining a transmission mode. The method and device disclosed by the invention are suitable to be applied to the field of communication, and used for carrying out selection on single and double current transmission modes in a MIMO system.
