Passivity-based Control of Non-linear Systems

Energy plays an important role in physics. Passivity is a related concept in system theory which describes exchange of energy between subsystems. Passivity is a very important concept for complex systems because passive systems can be combined to large complexes whose properties are very predictable because the combined system is also passive. This chapter surveys recent developments on passivity-based control of finite-dimensional nonlinear dynamical systems with special focus on stabilization and disturbance attenuation issues.
