Design of broadband double‐curved cross dipole ESPAR antennas

The design of a broadband ESPAR (electrically steerable passive array radiator) antenna for broadband modern communication systems is proposed in this article. A compact broadband cross dipole ESPAR antenna comprises of single active element with cross type and six parasitic elements with cylindrical type. The cross dipole of active element modified with double-curved each radius. Reactance devices are loaded on each parasitic element to control radiation pattern. It satisfied return loss less than −10 dB from bandwidth 2.35 GHz and 2.48 GHz. The radiation patterns are in the same direction and gain has each 4.5 dBi, 4.6 dBi, and 5.3 dBi at resonant frequencies 2.35 GHz, 2.42 GHz, and 2.48 GHz, respectively. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
