Modulation techniques for digital cellular systems

A modulation technique is described that uses the properties of linear modulation techniques to achieve high spectral efficiency. When combined with high-quality low-bit-rate speech coding and channel coding, linear modulation provides a substantial increase in system capacity. A QDPSK system provides high-quality speech using a 10-kHz bandwidth, with better S/I protection ratios than the current analog system. A digital cellular system which uses QDPSK is discussed. Bit error rate and spectral efficiency data are presented.<<ETX>>
