Closed analytical solution for galloping aeroelastic self-oscillations

Abstract The aeroelastic self-oscillations of bluff bodies present a great variety. They are characterized by different origins, physical models, mathematical description and conditions of existence. They have been studied in a number of papers in detail. This paper deals with the well-known phenomenon of aeroelastic instability — galloping, which was first observed by Den Hartog while investigating the instability of ice-covered transmission wires in a wind flow.
