3D SURFACE MODELING WITH STEREOVISION

The paper describes a method for 3D surface modeling. The method makes the assumption of circular fruit or vegetable cross-section. It uses two Internet cameras with a slide projector as an independent light source. To reconstruct the surface of the fruit or vegetable, circular cross-sections are assembled in 3D. The software calculates the circle middles and radiuses in 3D based on rectified images. The information about the complete 3D fruit or vegetable surface can also be used for fruit or vegetable volume and mass calculation. Other applications of the proposed methodology are for example plant and fruit monitoring during the growing season.
