The Analysis of Drivers' Route Changing Factors in Car Navigation System

This research is for analyzing uses of vehicle navigation and for providing appropriate information for drivers. Since recommended route from navigation is based on the shortest path, there is a difference between actual driving route and the route from navigation according to the characteristics of drivers and the purpose of driving. Throughout analyzing log historical data, compliance rate showed about 70%. When the number of route changes per km are compared, the study shows that the number of route changes of week days is 0.7~3 times higher than weekends’. The authors analyzed the main cause of route changes by deriving structure equation. The data shows that the distance and driver experience have a direct impact on driver behaviour and the simplicity and traffic congestion is indirect factor. Based on the result of study, the authors need to concentrate more on the route travelers really prefer and consider the simplicity of route and traffic congestion. This study will make it to be available to understand information of car navigation systems by theoretical research which is considering traffic characteristics.
