A self-organizing fuzzy power system stabilizer

In this paper, a strategy for self-organizing fuzzy power system stabilizer (PSS) is formulated and evaluated. Unlike other methods that have a learning algorithm to update a rule base, the proposed method has a learning algorithm to update a look-up table. The proposed PSS consists of an output look-up table that is made by a fuzzy rule base, and learning algorithm based on the principle of sliding mode. The results of the proposed PSS reduces computation time, steady state error, efficient response achieved for damping electromechanical modes of oscillations, and enhance power system synchronous stability. Computer simulation shows that the proposed method can be easily implemented.
