A Comparative Study of Soil-Structure Interactions of Tall Buildings Subjected to Wind and Earthquake Excitations

A preliminary analysis is conducted with the approximate frequency-domain method to compare the soil-structure interactions of tall buildings subjected to wind loading and earthquake excitation, which takes various factors, such as the rigidity, damping, and natural period of the coupled soil-structure system, into account. One typical tall building structure is subsequently selected as the case study in the numerical example. The numerical results indicate the soil-structure-interaction effects upon the responses of the tall buildings subjected to wind loading may exhibit great disparities compared with those upon the tall building responses induced by earthquake.
