Smart energy management and control of stand-alone pico-hydro systems

Stand-alone systems are the only viable option for electrification of rural and remote locations. This paper presents design and development of a cost effective, efficient, smart energy management system for the control of three-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG) suitable for stand-alone pico-hydro power generation with constant input power. The objective is to improve the utilization efficiency of the pico-hydro system in real time while maintaining voltage regulation and load management of the micro-grid system.
