The Adjective "vieux": The Point Of View Of "generative Lexicon

The aim of this paper is to present a treatment of adjectival polymor-Taking as an example the adjective vieux in French (\old"), the work shows on the one hand that the diierent senses of the adjective cannot be enumerated and on the other that its polymorphism is not innnite (Stati, 1979, Lahav, 1989). In particular, it can be predicted given adequate tools, namely rich typed representations for adjectives and nouns (i.e. qualia structures) and mechanisms to compose them.
