Modelling of Submerged Cable Dynamics

Abstract Results from a series of simulated submerged cable maneuvers are presented. The simulations are obtained using a three-dimensional, finite-segment model of the cable. The model, called UCIN-CABLE, consists of a series of ball-and-socket connected rigid rods. Fluid drag, inertia and buoyancy forces are included. Two types of simulation are presented: buoy release and anchor drop. The results compare favorably with exsperimental data and with data obtained from finite-element modelling.
