Motion compensation for spotlight SAR mode imaging

In this paper the phase errors from motion errors in spotlight synthetic aperture radar (SAR) are studied, and then are decomposed into two kinds, space-invariant error caused by translation and space-variant error by rotation. Computer simulations show the above mentioned errors and their corresponding damage on spotlight SAR images. Based on the above analysis the prominent point processing (PPP) algorithm is introduced for spotlight SAR imaging with polar format algorithm (PFA). Then motion compensation with PPP not only space-invariant error but also space-variant error are almost removed and high-resolution SAR images are obtained. Finally, results are presented with simulated data.
