Model seismoresistant ferrocement house

The goal of this project was the designing of a seismoresistant house for the Ramon Lopez Pena Quarter, Municipality of San Luis, Santiago de Cuba Province. This house was to be built using ferrocement. For calculating the stresses, was used the CALCEDIF-SISMOS computer program devised by Engineer Carlos Llanes Buron, Ph.D., and Engineer Vicente Cubell, both of whom belong to PREMIDES, CECAT, ISPJAE. The project aimed mainly at meeting as many structural, architectural, technological and building requisites as possible that could be found in the group of houses to be built, and that, in turn, could be used as a model for designing the remaining houses. This house is mostly prefabricated, except for the foundations, and the amount of types of prefabricated members is very reduced. Such members are very light and can be handled and mounted manually, so no hoisting equipment are needed. Those members are prefabricated in situ using the machines and the technology designed in by the Engineer Sergio Marrero with the adviser of the author of the article in the Technic University Jose A. Echeverria, (ISPJAE).
