Gaming Innovations and Future Directions - Pathways to a Socially Responsible Gaming Industry

In recent years, State and Territory Governments have introduced a range of harm minimisation measures to promote the responsible use of gaming machines. The presentation will examine and demonstrate recent responsible gaming measures that have been developed and introduced here and in Canada. These measures enhance the strong player protection features that have been built into the regulation of gaming machine gambling since it was first legalised. Developments in new gaming technologies will be discussed and their potential to provide mechanisms to enhance the capacity of the player to better understand and manage their gaming behaviour will be explored with delegates. Technology options include better player information; precommitment of loss/bet limits; pop-up messages; on-screen game rules; card technology and on-screen clocks.
