Histopathological Studies of the Ossicles in Chronic Otitis Media

IT has been recognized for many years that the ossicles may be diseased in chronic middle-ear suppuration. Schwartze (1873) and Politzer (1884), in their classical writing on the pathology of chronic suppurative otitis media, emphasized the frequency of ossicular involvement. Schulze (1904) and later Ferreri (1922) amplified these studies by histological investigations. Since the advent of the modern era of antibiotic therapy and reconstructive surgery, this subject has, however, attracted but scant attention.
