Experimental Study on the Impulse-voltage Transmission Characteristics of Inductive Voltage Transformers

For the relay protection of a power system, the transient-based protection can improve the protection operation time,so it is necessary to study the transmission characteristics of instrument transformers. The impulse-voltage transmission characteristics of inductive voltage transformers were studied through the high voltage impulse. Results reveal that, the electrostatic induction in the transmission progress can transfer the signal and polarity of the impulses from primary windings with no time-delay,the transmission function of the inductive voltage transformers' windings is a linear function, and the value and time of the free oscillation in the secondary waveform increase with the decrease of the front time of the impulse from the primary winding.
