Sheldon G. Hayes Award: A Bonus-Winning Project - Six Months Early

The National Asphalt Pavement Association's Sheldon G. Hays award for 2011 was given to Staker Parson Companies for their work on a high traffic, 8.55 mile stretch of I-15 north of Salt Lake City, Utah. The project, which involved adding lanes, median barrier, drainage, signage and a sound wall, was particularly challenging due to efforts to coordinate their project with another, the Legacy Parkway project. Staker Parson earned most of Utah Department of Transportation's (UDOT) incentive bonus for smoothness, with a vertical deviation of no more than 1.75 inch per mile, and all of UDOT's bonus for early completion of the project.
