Internal friction in patented U8 steel after reannealing

The paper sums up an internal-friction study of the annealing behavior of fine pearlite produced in U8 carbon steel as a result of a low-temperature (500°C) pearlitic transformation (the patented state). The internal-friction effects thus revealed confirm the hypothesis that immediately at the end of the phase transformation, the ferritic component of the pearlite contains an increased proportion of carbon (relative to the equilibrium one).
