A control IC for electronic ballast with mixed-mode excitation

This paper introduces a mixed mode excitation applicable to high performance electronic ballast combining the advantages of self and external excitations. Filament preheating, dimming, and protection are also implemented by the control IC designed using the 5V CMOS process including the function of the mixed mode excitation, which enables a realization of a low cost and high performance electronic ballast.
