Abstract : This report is a study of a frequency-shift keyed (FSK) communication system with an LMS adaptive array included for interference protection. The major problem addressed is the generation of a reference signal for the adaptive array. The reference signal generation system presented involves converting the FSK bit stream to a Markov sequence, allowing bit predictions to be made at the adaptive array. The bit predictions are used by a feedback circuit to form the reference signal. A computer simulation program is presented and simulation results are used to demonstrate the operation of the overall FSK system. Also included is a study of the effects of bit prediction errors and reference signal phase error. (author)
