Performance analysis of a hybrid TDMA-CSMA/CD protocol for bus networks

A hybrid TDMA-CSMA/CD protocol for medium access in local area bus networks is introduced. The performance and characteristics of the buffered hybrid protocol are analysed. A new kind of queue model is used to simplify a multi-dimensional Markov chain to a two-dimensional Markov chain. A buffered hybrid protocol is studied. The result shows that the throughput performance of the buffered hybrid protocol is better than the CSMA/CD protocol. On low load the delay is worse than CSMA/CD, on high load the delay is better than CSMA/CD.
