Evaluation of Driver Assistance Systems—A Human Centered Approach

In this paper, two newly developed driver models are presented. They are applied to the evaluation of two driver assistance systems. First, a longitudinal driver model is developed based on measured driving data, which is subsequently used to evaluate the impact of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) vehicles on traffic flow. A lateral driver model based on the model predictive control principle is then presented. This model is applied to the evaluation of the effect of a Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system on possible vehicle roll-prevention.
