Maximization of lineal recording density

A brief outline is given for design and analysis of the analog signal processing portion of peak sensing digital magnetic recording systems for which lineal recording density is maximized. This is a linear system analysis in which superposition is applicable to saturation recording if the media is indeed fully saturated at the termination of each transition. Results are stated in terms of parameters of run bounded codes because of their practical importance. However, the concept applies in general to the maximization of the information rate through a channel of finite bandwidth under pulse-position modulation.
