Loading Capacity of Segment Tensioned Beam String Structures

Beam string structures(BSS) are widely used in civil engineering for its excellent structural performance.But on some occasions,use of BSS is not suggested according to architectural requirements,because the mid-structure depth of the BSS is often too large.In order to exploit to the structural advantages of the BSS and avoid its disadvantages mentioned above,a new beam string structure concept,named segment tensioned beam string structures,was proposed in this paper.The loading behavior of the segment tensioned beam string structure under service load and its ultimate load-bearing capacity were analyzed and compared with ones of a traditional beam string structure by using SAP2000 software.Based on the numerical results,the segment tensioned beam string structure was improved.A new improved segment tensioned beam string structure was obtained,which has better performances in various structural aspects.
