Digital encoding technique for position X-ray detector

Abstract This paper outlines the potential inaccuracies of processing nucleonic detector pulses and provide an alternative analysis approach, which after digitisation of the analog signal is entirely logical in concept. This is achieved without reverting to commonly employed time-to-height conversion and multichannel analog pulse height analysers for high resolution analysis. Each step has been carefully studied to remove, as far as possible, the sensitive parts of the analog path which could either produce systematic errors in the results, or require careful calibration before use. The digital circuit is also described, and this can be easily adapted for specific interfaces to following circuitry.
