A Novel Anti-Collision Algorithm with Dynamic Tag Number Estimation for RFID Systems

Tag collision arbitration for RFID systems is a significant issue for fast tag identification. This paper provides a novel tag anti-collision algorithm with dynamic tag number estimation called dynamic tag number estimation anti-collision (DTEA) algorithm. For improving identification efficiency, DTEA estimates tag number first to optimize the following identification procedure by allocating proper reading slots according to the tag number estimated. Our performance evaluation shows that DTEA performs as well as Q algorithm from EPC (electronic product code) proposal while significantly reduces the frequency of random integer selection in each tag and saves energy.
