Road Accidents in Poland

This article provides an overview of road accident statistics in Poland. While it is the sixth largest country in Europe, Poland has a relatively low rate of vehicle ownership at 273 passenger cars per 1,000 people. The nation, however, is viewed as one of Europe's high risk countries by posing a higher risk to its population and having a higher accident severity rate that most of the nations in the European Union. An analysis of traffic and accident statistics reveals that the most common causes of accidents in Poland arise from vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and bicyclists, drivers who ignore traffic regulations, young drivers posing a traffic risk and a high percentage of intoxicated drivers and pedestrians. The article emphasizes that Poland needs to adopt significant preventative measures in order to reduce road casualties.
