Link failure restoration in WDM optical transport networks and the effect of wavelength conversion

In this work we analyze the consequences of link failure restoration. By extending a previously given algorithm we analyze all single link failures in several existing or planned network topologies, namely the PJ1PANet, NSFNet, UKNet and EON, to evaluate the new wavelength requirements. A full logical restoration is achieved by rerouting only the lightpaths passing via the failed link or by allowing the restoration wavelength to be changed, while maintaining logical end-to-end transparency.
