Raum- und bauakustische Gestaltung eines Mehrkanal-Abhörraumes

For the purpose of demonstrating developments at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS) in the field of multichannel audio engineering a testing and demonstration room has been built which on the one hand satisfies the highest acoustic requirements and on the other hand provides the auditorium with a pleasant environment for concentrating listening. Since this room was to be built into an existing building and only a limited amount of space was available, the acoustic and design targets made unusual solutions for certain details necessery. Into the building carcass a 'building within a building' was inserted; this was a non-metallic fireproof structure insulated from both airborne and structure-borne noise, with internal cladding defining the sound field and provided with an acoustically permeable overlay. The large-format acoustic panels with a nominal thickness of only 100 mm are a new development by the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) of alternative fibre-free absorbers (ALFA), the so-called sandwich panel resonators.
