Control of Modular Multilevel Converter for Photovoltaic Generation System Considering Partial Shading

This paper proposes a control method of the modular multilevel converter (MMC) for the photovoltaic (PV) system, where PV panels are connected to submodules (SMs). By regulating the voltage command of each SM, all PV panels can separately reach their maximum power points (MPPs) under the partial shading condition. The dc and ac components of the circulating current are controlled to transfer the power between the phases and the arms, which can make the SM output power maximum and supply the stable current to the power system. The Simulation study has been done in PLECS software to verify the proposed control method.
