On precipitation kinetics in TiNi shape memory alloys

The kinetics of Ti3Ni4 precipitation and changes of properties in Ti–50.5at.%Ni are discussed. Ti3Ni4 forms dominantly at grain boundaries when the defect density is low. Experimental data fit the Kolmogorov–Johnson–Mehl–Avrami relationship describing the reaction kinetics. Aging influences significantly properties of Ti–50.5at.%Ni.
