In this paper a systematic consideration of some urgent problems in metrological assurance of intelligent measurement systems is given. These are: characterizing (i.e. choosing, estimating, verifying and reporting) metrological properties, automatic on-line evaluation of the uncertainties in the final measurement results (called Metrological Automatic Support (MAS) of measurement results), verification and testing of means for metrological automatic support and the way to practical realization in the integrated measurement software environment. In the context of the problems discussed, a pragmatic definition of the intelligent measurement system is presented and its general functional block structure is given.
