Adjusting a Handover parameter when a User Equipment is liable to experience rapid deterioration in Quality of a link with a Base Station

A method of controlling handover in a cellular communications network, comprising identifying a situation in which a User Equipment (UE) is liable to experience rapid deterioration in Quality of a link with a Base Station (BS), collecting measurement information related to the conditions experienced by a UE in said situation and automatically adjusting at least one handover parameter in said BS based on the collected information. The UE in said situation may be handed over to a target cell sooner than without said adjustment. When such a sharp deterioration of the link quality is detected, the BS collects measurement information related to the radio conditions associated with the source, target and other cells experienced by the UE in that problem location. The BS can react by adopting a more aggressive handover policy, so that the rapid degradation does not lead to a failed handover.
