Hyper-multispectral image analysis based on waveform characteristics of spectral curve

Abstract It is well known that the terrestrial materials show characteristic spectral features including absorption, based on laboratory study. Recently, imaging spectrometers have been developed in order to acquire image data of high spectral resolution, resulting in huge volumes of spectral data. This study describes a technique for extracting some parameters to represent waveform of absorption features in order to reduce data volume. Parameterization is performed for an entire image acquired in the Cuprite mining district, Nevada, by an imaging spectrometer which was developed by Geophysical Environmental Research Corporation. Results are displayed in the form of parameter-images based on absorption features, which show the distribution of altered rocks based on detailed spectral information.
