A APAA system for Ku-band mobile multimedia service via satellite

This paper describes the receiver design of APAA (active phased array antenna) for satellite multimedia service including Internet and broadcasting in Ku-band. This system was optimally designed with the active part on the consideration of minimum size and cost, besides electric performances. The channel is consisted of several parts, such as radiator, active, and control part. This system has the beam scanning capability of plusmn8deg in elevation and plusmn4deg in azimuth with electrical tracking method, and mechanical operation was also adopted in azimuth. By an outdoor test, it was verified that the system has the performances to provide mobile satellite link to the users in vehicles
