A cross-platform interoperable component for course analytics

Nowadays, universities are facing the challenge of producing quality online interactive contents to be used in their curricula or in massive online courses (MOOC). Thus, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena has created the Center of Production of Digital Contents with the objective of facilitating the task of creating contents for teachers. With this in mind, this center has developed the UPCTforma environment which includes an authoring tool for creating educational multimedia content, along with evaluation, gamification, authentication and tracking components. In this paper we will present the tracking component responsible for the collection of student tracking data throughout a course. The component also supports data visualization and exporting, to facilitate course monitoring and analysis. UPCTforma uses LTI to enable the developed contents to be integrated into different e-learning platforms. In the case of the tracking component, using LTI permits the registering of student learning tracking independent from the tracking service of the platforms on which the courses are deployed. This is one of the main innovations in the tracking approach presented in this study, which demonstrates the benefits of using LTI.
