Flexible Gradient Analysis: A Note on Ideas and an Application

The standard approach to the study of vegetation is discussed in which sampling represents a first and data analysis a second step. An alternative is suggested where sampling and analysis run concurrently. An example is given to demonstrate possible gains in efficiency and flexibility.
