On the Interference Robustness of Ultra-Wideband Energy Detection Receivers

This work analyzes the performance of Ultra-Wideband energy detection receivers for binary pulse position modulation in the presence of narrowband or wideband interference. The decision variable after the integrator of an energy detector is separated into a signal and an interference term. An analytical expression for the variance of the interference term is derived. This variance indicates the detection performance and is minimized by choosing optimal values for the integration time of the energy detection receiver. Fundamental performance limits of energy detection receivers in case of wideband interference are found and discussed. A linear pulse correlation receiver is considered for reference performance results.
