Feasibility Study of E-band mm-Wave for Gigabit point-to-point Wireless Communications

In this article, the performances of E-band (81-86 GHz) millimeter-wave for gigabit point-to-point wireless communications are studied based on experimental measurement data. Specifically, the E- band link budget is provided by examining propagation path loss, shadow fading, and rain attenuations. A model of rain attenuation in E- band is proposed and compared with ITU-R recommendation model and measurement data. Communication link availability vs. coverage for dif- ferent rainfall rates and antenna gain sets are investigated for providing useful information on design of systems.
