Structural health monitoring and damage detection of the helicopter main rotor blades with the structure integrated sensors

For the few last years enormous grow of the interest has been observed for continuous condition monitoring of aerospace structures with the use of structural health monitoring techniques SHM. Such systems use ‘physics’ of NDT for data acquisition with the use of so called “smart layers”. These “smart layers” are based on sensor networks distributed in the structure of the object under the monitoring. That approach enable condition monitoring with the use of different diagnostic techniques. In the article brief description of such techniques as well as methods of signal assessment for the aerospace application will be delivered.
