Investigation on order generation in the orifice noise of internal combustion engines

Due to the complexity of the total intake-engine-exhaust-system, the cause for the formation of individual orders and order patterns in the intake noise cannot always be directly determined. This paper by the Institute for Internal Combustion Engines of the RWTH Aachen offers a suggestion of how to divide the total system into three manageable subsystems as the foundation of a strategy to safely detect the weaknesses of the system and to develop countermeasures more efficiently.
