Floc simulation: The effect of collision sequence

Abstract A study has been made of the effect of incorporating different degrees of cluster addition into the simulation model of floc structure. Three models of cluster addition were tested, and all produced similar structures which were significantly different from those given by the single particle model proposed by Vold. Floc parameters calculated for all models are compared with Medalia's experimental results for carbon black. The single particle model gives values closest to the practical values, while the cluster addition models predict a structure of lower density than is observed. The cluster addition models, however, show the correct qualitative trends with floc parameters.
