Application of PMU Technique in Stability Monitoring of an Electric Power System

The PMU-based power system's operation monitoring system can be either a fully new wide area metering system(WAMS), or an improved and upgraded SCADA system with PMU information processing capability, which will be able to acquire more information on operation of power grid as compared with the conventional SCADA system. This paper has made an analysis of the technical characteristics of the PMU system, and gives a presentation of the research made at home and abroad on application of PMU in power system operation monitoring technique and its achievements. The paper has analyzed and evaluated the research results theoretically.
