A New PWM for Feedback Control System Electrical Drives

Abstract A method to overcome the high non-linearity of PWM control systems is proposed. It shows by a new linearization procedure, based on a particular pulse width modulation law, how the design of such systems may be achieved by using standard linear synthesis techniques. The proposed modulation law is applied to the armature control of a d.c. motor drive. The corresponding PW modulator is of the uniform, sampling, unipolar, lead type and the regulator is of the standard type. The whole system now being a linear one, an automatic synthesis procedure is developed to obtain the regulator parameters. The efficiency of the modulation law is verified by several tests covering a wide range of set-point variations.
