Speed Control of PMSM with Sliding Mode Disturbance Observer

This paper focuses on the speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), which is with uncertain external load disturbances. To promote the performance of PMSM speed loop, such as fast response, tracking accuracy and robustness, a sliding mode disturbance observer (SMDO) is proposed. The SMDO is used as a compensator, which is designed to estimate the lumped external disturbances and add a corresponding feedback compensation item to the output of the speed controller. Experiments and the corresponding results demonstrate that the proposed observer can guarantee a strong anti-disturbance capability of PMSM drive system, with improved speed tracking performance.
