Computer Derivation of Short-Period Lunar Perturbations

The CDC 6400 computer was used to verify the literal algebra of Kozai’s short-period lunar perturbations. Most of Kozai’s results were verified; some errors were found and corrected. The output of the literal algebra program (SPASM) was Fortran arithmetic statements, which were compiled to produce a program that would evaluate the perturbations. SPASM operates directly on symbolic expressions. Some advantages of this approach over table-driven algebraic processors are observed.
