An Automatic Determination and Optimal Algorithm of Mold Parting Direction

An automatic algorithm for determining the optimal mold parting direction was proposed.Features were recognized from the part firstly and treated as the investigation subjects in the following.Operations among the visibility analysis of features were implemented to get the candidate parting directions,then the determination principles of parting direction were introduced and the main parting direction was gained.This algorithm can determine the optimal parting direction and gain the information about the undercuts synchronously.Automated mold parting direction determination system was developed on UG flatform using C+ language and the efficiency and precision of this segment in mold design are improved.It supplies the solid foundation for the following mold design.
