The Rechenbrücke – A project in the introductory phase of studies

In the transition from secondary to tertiary mathematics education, major difficulties occur for many students. To respond to this situation, the University of Applied Sciences Munster started the Rechenbrucke project with the object to alleviate the transition from school to university for engineering students through various support measures in the area of mathematics. In this article, we present the preliminary course which is part of the support measures of the Rechenbrucke and aims at refreshing basic calculating skills. The initial results of the pilot study presented indicate the potentially positive effect of these measures.
